4. Pay Attention to Your Social Media Presence

Far too many businesses take a blase approach to their social media presence. But, if you ask me, it’s not something you can afford to take for granted. These networks offer an incredible array of advertising possibilities because it’s so easy for the word about your business to spread quickly.

Don’t just stick to Twitter and Facebook though. There is a whole host of other useful social media sites that can be just as important. There’s Linkedin, Google+ Pages, Tumblr, Youtube and Flickr. They can all offer something different to your business. Do your research and find out which ones could be helpful for your business.

3. Go Direct

There are multiple ways in which you can contact your customers directly. Going directly to your customer means that you know that the message is going to reach them, and they’ll almost certainly read it. It takes away the risk of the dragnet approach to online advertising. It’s important that you target the right customers though.

The first kind of direct marketing you should employ is email marketing. This doesn’t mean spamming people with useless emails. Make sure you only send relevant and interesting emails and don’t send them too regularly. You could also use direct mail, not many companies use the post anymore, but it could be a good addition to your marketing operation.

2. Focus on Your Traffic

If you’re going to have any chance of reaching your target customers, you need to be able to attract them to your website. This means focusing on the level of traffic coming to your website. There are loads of ways you can increase traffic to your website, but the best is to use targeted advertising.

You could use pay per click consultant services. This places your business’s adverts on websites that are relevant to your brand. So, if you sell climbing equipment, your adverts will be placed on adverts that are relevant to extreme sports like climbing, with the permission of the site owner.

1. Tell Your Story, Don’t Pitch

The internet changed marketing in many ways. But one of the biggest is how personalised it’s become. People no longer respond well to being bombarded with information or sold a sales pitch. People will switch off and turn away instantly if they feel like they’re just hearing a generic page of sales jargon.

So, don’t try to pitch at people on the internet. Instead, tell them your story. This will engage them much better and can create a much stronger link between a customer and a business. It’s also important to interact with your customers. Nobody wants to deal with a sterile, faceless enterprise, so make an effort to connect.
